The internet is not written in pencil, it’s written in ink…

Might seem like I am in the middle of facebook or social media bashing spree but this is an appeal to a lot of people who don’t think too much before publishing things on the internet! Mind you it is not only about facebook but also about status messages, blogs et al!

The title of this page comes from the movie called “The Social Network” which talks about the history of facebook. It is one powerful statement!

It in interesting how a lot of companies today make sure they “google” you before making a final offer. The activities you get involved with, the people you hang around with…all the information is right there for everyone to see!!!

These are a few things I could think of that can help us avoid those “I wish I had been more careful…” moments –

1. Check the privacy settings! “Share with everyone” can be dicey with a lot of things!

2. Make it as vague as possible – Sure you want to tell your friends what you have been upto but you don’t always have to go into that much detail!

3. Connect only with people you know! – Is there a point otherwise?

4. No personal information whatsoever! – Phone numbers, addresses etc are a big NO!

5. Avoid personal chatting on the facebook walls. If you want to talk about something send personal messages or emails. Why do you want an audience of yours and your friend’s conversations?

These small steps would take us a long way to avoid embarrassing moments in the future! Still can’t get over this awesome sentence – “The internet is not written in pencil, it’s written in ink…”
