Why did you mark me?

Posted: February 2, 2011 in Uncategorized

In the last two years I have heard a lot of comments around myself on being marked a CC or a BCC on a communication. It does not fail to amuse me!

What is really interesting is the fact that most of the times the concern about “chain mails” and “reply all” comes from people who have never really been in the industry for too long! At any kind of managerial position I wonder how they would be able to manage the stream of mails if they lose their calm over a few of them right now!

Email etiquettes is something that should be taken up in schools now, let along management schools! You don’t invite people to something by marking them a BCC or even a CC.

“To” is where you address people, “CC” is where you say “I am not really talking to you but I want you to know”, “BCC” is where you say “I am not really talking to you, but I want you to know AND I don’t want others to know that you know”.

How difficult is it to get it?
