Wisdom or the lack of it!

Posted: February 21, 2011 in Random

“The older I grow the more I distrust the old doctorine that age brings wisdom.” – H. L. Mencken

I tend to remember these famous words from Mencken when I come across childish behavior from “experienced” people around me! However disturbed you might be from a person’s attitude or his/her comments on anything at all, harming a person physically is NEVER a good idea.

You lose face and the other person gets the moral upper ground!

And then…

“When your friends have great news you are happy for them, for like a millisecond, and then you start thinking about yourself…” How I Met Your Mother, Season 6, Episode 12.

This is exactly what came to my mind when I got this email with the subject “Koi Mil Gaya!” Sure I was happy and excited about my friend. Sent her a congratulatory mail and all that stuff but I could not, not think about myself!

Does it happen to you?

Log kya kahenge?

Translated to English the title for this post would be “What will people say?”

Something happened a couple of days back that made me realize how important is it for people to account for what the others will say! I guess living in a society everyone tends to give it a thought…however the bigger question is how much does it affect you or influence your decisions!!

Reminds me of one of the concepts I read in a book about taking inspiration from what happens around you. There were a set of twins who lived in the opposite corners of a city. One of them was an alcoholic, beat up his wife, did not take care of his kids etc. When asked what makes him like this came the reply…”It is not my fault, my dad was like that!”. On the other hand was his twin who was completely the opposite- teetotaler, a caring husband and a loving father. When asked wasn’t you dad as described by your brother he said “sure dad was like that, but seeing him I resolved I would never be like him!”. Same circumstances, absolutely opposite inspirations!

Someone aptly said “Duniya mein sab se bada rog….mere baare mein kya kahenge log?” (the world’s greatest disease is that, keep worrying about what will people say about me?)

Therefore does hearing people talk stop you from doing things you want to…or does it merely add to your resolve of doing it better?

High!

Seeing bubbly people around give me a high…

…it is such a blessing to be around such people.

Feeling of emptiness…

I refuse to believe it is because of the day gone by…

…but definitely something made me feel this way. Wonder what it was.

However I need to find ways to get over that stuff. Pondering over the available alternative…

1. Chatting on the web- Already tried…did not seem to work

2. Talking face to face to a friend – Bhaiya 3 baj chuke hain. Tume nahi sona to humein to sone do...

3. Food – Again too late to find great food.

4. Camera – my ultimate savior. Again too late…

5. Googling – can’t think of anything to read about 😐

I don’t think I am getting anywhere with this one. I have a class tomorrow for which I better be awake. And for that I will have to sleep now!

Adios

This is one lesson I learnt during my stay in Gurgaon with an uncooperative flatmate….or probably it was the time when I implemented it with success…

don’t get mad….get even….

And I think it is one of the best ways to go about it!
